Your privacy

Last updated: 15 September 2026 · Early-access website and mailing list

Here is what happens to your information when you visit UsBefore, join our early-access mailing list or contact us. You can browse without subscribing, and you can leave the list at any time.

Who is responsible

Rafal Sobczak operates UsBefore as an individual in Switzerland and is the controller responsible for this information. UsBefore is not currently a separately incorporated company. Contact hello@usbefore.com or write to Route de l’Isle 21m, 1142 Hautemorges, Switzerland.

What this policy covers

This policy covers the public early-access website, launch mailing list and enquiries. Public subscriptions are currently closed while signup preparation is completed. The mailing-list information below also applies to the consented test subscriptions already used to check delivery and unsubscribe.

This is not the privacy policy for the signed-in genealogy app. Uploading family photographs, documents or information about relatives involves different processing. Please do not include those materials, sensitive information or another person’s email address in a signup or general enquiry.

Information we use and why

When you visit

Our hosting service receives technical information such as your IP address, requested page, time of request, browser information and, where supplied, the referring page. This is used to deliver the page, diagnose problems and protect the site against misuse. Your browser sends its preferred languages so we can display an appropriate language. A language you choose yourself is kept in the page URL.

When you subscribe

We use your email address, any optional name or language information you provide, and subscription records to send launch updates and invitations to try UsBefore. MailerLite records information associated with signup and confirmation, which can include the form used, timestamps, IP address and subscription status. We also receive delivery, bounce, complaint and unsubscribe information.

Subscriptions use double opt-in: you request to join and then confirm using an email link. Joining is voluntary, free, and does not create an app account or commit you to buying anything. We do not buy mailing lists or sell subscriber details.

When you contact us

We use your email address, message, attachments you choose to send and our reply history to answer your enquiry. An enquiry does not subscribe you to marketing.

Our reasons for processing

Where EU or UK GDPR applies, launch emails are based on consent. Delivering and securing the website, answering enquiries, maintaining delivery records and preventing unwanted repeat mail are based on our legitimate interests in operating a reliable service and respecting your choices. We balance those interests against your privacy. Information needed to meet a specific legal duty is processed on that legal basis. Swiss data-protection law also applies to our handling of personal data.

Email measurement and advertising

Open tracking is disabled in the test campaign. Link-click tracking was enabled: MailerLite may associate a clicked email link and its time with the recipient. These test results are used to check that delivery and links work. Optional measurement for future public campaigns will be explained and, where required, offered only with a separate consent choice before use. Delivery and unsubscribe records are still needed to operate the list.

The landing page does not load an advertising pixel or visitor-analytics tool. We do not upload the mailing list to Facebook or other advertising audiences. Our Facebook link is a normal external link; visiting it takes you to a service with its own privacy practices. See Cookies and storage for more detail.

Who helps us provide the service

These providers process information to supply their services, and may also have their own legal, security or abuse-prevention responsibilities. We may disclose information when required by law, or where necessary to establish or defend legal claims. Subscriber details are not published on the website.

Where information is processed

We administer the service from Switzerland. MailerLite identifies the Netherlands as the data-centre location for its current product, with a subprocessor in Poland. Vercel’s primary processing facilities are in the United States and it uses international infrastructure. Namecheap also describes processing in the United States. Storage location alone does not exclude access by a provider or its suppliers in another country.

The linked provider agreements describe their transfer arrangements, including standard contractual clauses and provisions for Swiss and UK data where applicable. Transfers may rely on an applicable adequacy decision or contractual safeguards where required. You can ask us for information about the safeguards relevant to your data and a copy of the applicable contractual provisions, subject to necessary redactions. We do not promise that all processing stays in Switzerland or the EU.

How long we keep information

The criteria are the purpose of the record, whether the matter is still active, security needs and applicable legal obligations or claim periods. We do not retain information simply for possible unrelated future marketing. Contact us for the retention information applicable to a particular record.

Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in a marketing email or by writing to hello@usbefore.com. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing lawfully carried out before withdrawal.

You may object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can always object to direct marketing. Tell us what you would like stopped so we can deal with your request.

Depending on the applicable law, you may request access to your information, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, or a portable copy of information you supplied where the conditions for portability apply. These rights have legal limits; for example, a minimal unsubscribe record may be needed to respect your choice. We will explain any refusal or limitation.

Send requests to our contact address. We may ask for proportionate information to verify your identity; please do not send an identity document unless requested. We respond within the applicable statutory period, normally one month under GDPR or 30 days under Swiss law, and explain any permitted extension.

You may complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner, the UK Information Commissioner, or the competent authority in the EU/EEA, including where you live or work. You do not have to contact us first.

Other things to know

The early-access list is intended for adults. We do not knowingly invite children to subscribe. Contact us if a child has supplied information so we can address it. We do not use landing-page or mailing-list data to make automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.

We use HTTPS for the website and limit administrative access to the services we use. No website or email system can guarantee complete security.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our processing changes. If a company takes over UsBefore, we will identify the new controller and explain relevant changes. Material changes to how subscriber information is used will be communicated as required, and we will obtain fresh consent where necessary.
